Go ahead and explore the ideas below
This little attention manoeuvre will work best
when you are on your feet.
It will also work best if you can be
alone and without distractions.
TRY IT FOR YOUR SELF
Notice what it is like to move your attention around.
Not just looking about, but listening.
Listen behind you and out to the sides without looking.
For instance listen over to the left and let your
eyes go to the right at same time.
Do a few little shifts like this just to flex your “attention muscle”.
You will get the impression that your attention
is a nugget of awareness that you can deliberately
move around, even divide up. Neat eh!
It may not seem so special but this is a powerful tool. Your attention moving is your mind moving. You should play with it until you get a good idea of controlling it before you go on.
OK now you’ve got hold of it, let’s see where you can take it!
Get a small piece of white paper.
Scrunch it up into a loose ball that you can hold
in your hand. A white tissue is good too.
Move it from hand to hand while you look at it.
Throw it up a little. Play with it.
Now close your eyes. Without moving your hands
capture the image of something white
being tossed from hand to hand.
That’s right, just imagine it.
Got it going? OK open your eyes and look down at your feet.
Imagine for a moment that beneath your feet is hollow.
Into that hollow space space beneath your feet
drop your white image!
Yes, imagine that something vaguely white
is falling away downwards beneath your feet.
Don’t see the details.
Just float an impression downwards. Way down...
Moving your mind downwards, did something move upwards inside? Did a change come over your body
while you used your mind this way?
If not, do the process a few more times before
you conclude whether or not you succeeded.
We are hoping that you will discover
the MOTION that releases your body
and starts you moving upwards inside
